About PAUL:

Paul has been a motion-graphics artist, video editor & 3D effects creator for nearly ten years. Since going freelance in October of 2008, his only regret is that he never did it sooner. Much of Paul’s professional work annoys the general public in shopping malls, telco stores, & occasionally, on late-night TV. He makes a decent enough living, & freelancing affords him the time to occasionally work on his personal work – this being one such case.

Paul recalls stumbling upon his uncle’s hidden stash of comics during his mid-teens. X-Men, The Avengers, & Fantastic Four were among the titles. There was also a large collection of Heavy Metal magazines, as well as books on Bernie Wrightson, Frank Frazetta, & graphic novels by Richard Corben & Jean Giraud Moebius. He quickly became interested in collecting for himself, and came to know the work of Joe Madureira, J Scott Campbell, Chris Bachalo, & underground figures such as Sam Keith.

He has always loved the comicbook form, and believes it is as valid an art-form as any other. He is also a mega sci-fi geek. I mean HUGE. Paul has always been intrigued by stories set in the Earth’s distant future, but with the look and feel of our ancient past. Stories like DEN & BLOODSTAR have had a major impact on the look and feel of Pandeia.

Paul lives & works in Sydney Australia, with his wife and daughter.

About PANDEIA:

Pandeia is set in Earth’s distant future. It is a world without our familiar moon. Instead, a thin band of debris – known as the Menai – encircle the globe. The story takes place in and around the Cadian desert (present day Anatolia). It is a harsh & barren place, but its unique geology and peculiar micro-tectonics has generated an underground network of geothermal vents around its borders. Three city-states – Al-Kamar, Tsuki-Yama, & Theia – vie for the rich, geothermal energy which can be tapped and siphoned there.

The Earth is in slow decline. The days get incrementally longer, its tilt is now almost 30 degrees to the ecliptic & the occasional Menoid (a piece of the ring) will enter a spiral orbit with devastating consequences. Many of the powers-that-be ignore these signs: the balance of their accounts concern them more than that of the planet. So when a Theian cleric discovers information deep in the pre-selenic archives which could potentially restore Earth’s balance, & that the answers lie deep in the Trader-held Cadian desert, will he have what it takes to solve this mystery when deadly forces & the dogma of the reigning powers stand in his way?

Welcome to Pandeia – an action-packed adventure full of intrigue, mystery & unexpected twists.

Release Schedule:

Pandeia is written over a two/three month period, then drawn, inked and coloured over a frantic four weeks. It is then made available on a 3 day a week schedule, as well as for sale on the eStore. I aim to make this schedule have a bit of overlap, so the hiatus between chapters is a short as possible. Each 22 page issue should see release approx. every three months.

The Process:

I create all my pages in Blender and GIMP – usually using Blender to create the backgrounds, vehicles and the more complex props, then GIMP for the characters, foreground elements and general layout. I am currently doing all this on a 13in Macbook pro with 4Gb RAM, 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 CPU; a Wacom Intuos4, and occasionally an external monitor.
